According to the AGC in Washing D.C. the construction spending went up by 3.1 percent in Dec. of 2011 that is the highest one month increase in the last 17 months. Those figurs are based on the 130 largest metropolitan areas in the country.In last months Data Digest Report that means about 200,000 jobs. The out look for 2012 is expected to put 2.5 million construction workers back to work.The oil pipeline from Alberta Canada to the oil refineries in Texas will put tens of thousands of people to work,but no one thinks it is going to happen this year.

Caterpillar Illinois Jobs

It has been reported that Caterpillar is bringing 300 jobs to Illinois.
Illinois based world’s largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines, Caterpillar, has reportedly decided to add 300 new jobs in its East Peoria and Decatur plants, as a part of the $640 million up gradation plans.

A Caterpillar spokesman announced that the company has plans to manufacture more trucks from its East Peoria and Decatur plants in future.

Caterpillar, the Illinois-based world’s largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, has decided to open a new manufacturing facility in North America.

Caterpillar’s new manufacturing division is just for small track-type tractors and mini hydraulic excavators.

Mary Bell, Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT)’s Building Construction Products (BCP) Division Vice President, said, “The markets for smaller track-type tractors and mini hydraulic excavators have evolved significantly in the past 30 years, with the majority of customers now located in North America and Europe. Producing these machines at a North American location will put us in the best possible position to serve our customers in the building construction industry.”

Caterpillar has opened its Winston-Salem Manufacturing Facility.

Army to Cut 50,000 Soldiers

The U.S. Army plans to reduce its number of Soldiers by nearly 50,000 during a five-year span, a general said. Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, service personnel chief, said the reductions would begin in March.

Skid Steer Operator Killed at Site

A construction worker died Thursday in an accident at the soon-to-be demolished McGuire apartment building in Belltown.

Paramedics were called about 10:15 a.m. to the building at 210 Wall St.. The worker was injured on the 22nd floor and had to be lowered by crane to the ground, where paramedics performed CPR in an attempt to revive him, Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore said.

The man was in his 40s and suffered a severe neck trauma, Moore said.

He was employed with LVI Services, a New York demolition company. The general contractor at the site is Seattle-based Lease Crutcher Lewis, said Hector Castro, a spokesman for the Department of Labor and Industries, which is investigating.

The man was operating a Bobcat loader to push debris down a chute when he was injured, Castro said. Authorities were sorting out conflicting reports about what caused the injury. Initial reports were that he fell, but that no longer appears to be the case, Castro said.

"It appears that he drove into debris and hit a piece of rebar, suffering the fatal injury," Castro said. "There does appear to be pieces of rebar protruding from different areas. It is a demolition site."

The 25-story McGuire building has to be demolished because it was declared unsafe due to faulty construction.
